Professional Bio
Yu-Tung Wong is a board certified Otolaryngologist, Head and Neck Surgeon and is fellowship-trained in Otology, Neurotology, and Skull-Base Surgery. Dr. Wong is trained in the medical and surgical management of all aspects of otolaryngology. He specializes in ear-related diseases involving hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing), and vertigo (dizziness). He also provides surgical treatment for ear drum ruptures, chronic ear disease, otosclerosis, exostosis repair, aural atresia, bone-anchored hearing implants, and cochlear implantation. His expertise in skull-base tumors such as acoustic neuromas and meningiomas allows him to help contribute to the multidisciplinary team in planning the care of patients. Dr. Wong is a sincere advocate of educating the patient on their disease and their options so that they may make the best decision for themselves.

Expertise
Taking inspiration from the Bionic Man in the Six Million Dollar Man, Dr. Wong was graduated from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Engineering, with emphasis on Biomedical Devices. He helped establish their first Robotic Design Team for international competition in a Walking Machine Decathalon which led to the first robot in contest history to complete all ten events. His R&D engineering work for IOLAB/Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic Corporation, Integra NeuroSciences, and Vascular Control Systems resulted in multiple U.S. and World patents in surgical tools. During this exposure to the medical utility of the engineering products, he made the cognizant decision to change careers so that he could more directly and immediately impact the care of the patient as a surgeon. This life-choice was confirmed during his year spent as a Rehabilitation Engineer at Goodwill Industries, working directly with children and adults with disabilities to restore function and communication through assistive technology.

Education
Dr. Wong earned his M.D. degree from Case Western Reserve University. He then completed his residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Following residency, Dr. Wong then completed an accredited fellowship in Otology/Neurotology/Skull-Base Surgery at University of California at San Diego with Dr. Jeffrey Harris and Dr. Roberto Cueva. In addition to caring for patients with complex ear diseases and managing skull-base tumors, his engineering background allows him to continue his research translating technologies into medical innovations.
