Professional Bio
Gene Liu, MD MMM FACS is the founding member of the group and a board-certified Otolaryngologist – Head and Neck Surgeon who specializes in the treatment of pediatric ear, nose and throat (ENT) disorders. Dr. Liu participates in multiple multi-disciplinary clinics specializing in the care of complex pediatric patients.

Expertise
Dr. Liu is a longstanding member of the 
American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery where he has recently concluded his term of service on the Infectious Disease Committee and Medical Informatics Committee. He is currently serving on the Pediatric Otolaryngology Committee and the Simulation Education Committee and the co-chair for the national simulation workshop teaching other otolaryngologists how to manage high acuity, low frequency events. Additionally, Dr. Liu is a member of the Society for Ear Nose and Throat Advancement in Children (SENTAC) and a Board member for the Los Angeles Pediatric Society (LAPS).

 

Dr. Liu’s research includes investigating the feasibility and safety of performing procedures such as ear tubes in the office, potentially avoiding the need for anesthesia and the operating room. He has been invited to speak in regional and national meetings on this topic and is a staunch supporter of shared-decision making with parents in choosing the best option for their children. He has also served on multiple medical panels at Little People of America regional conferences helping families better understand ENT issues and assist them in navigating the healthcare system for their complex needs.

 

As an educator, Dr. Liu is actively involved in the training of Cedars-Sinai residents, UCLA medical students, USC & Touro University Physician Assistant students, as well as other healthcare students from across the country. He started one of the most popular ENT YouTube channels providing educational content aimed at patients and parents as well.

 

Dr. Liu has also volunteered his services with Mending Kids International and other non-profit organizations that offer free surgical care to children with medical problems that cannot be treated in their home countries.

Education
Dr. Liu obtained his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia with a major in chemistry and earned his M.D. degree and graduated with distinction from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He completed his residency training in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Colorado with significant exposure to pediatric otolaryngology at The Children’s Hospital in Denver.
