Free flap reconstruction or microvascular reconstruction surgery is a surgery done to repair the space left after a cancer has been removed.  The surgery transfers tissue from another part of the body and fills in defect, including bone and soft tissue, by connecting the tiny blood vessels of the transferred tissue to the primary site under the microscope.  The removal of head and neck cancers and subsequent repair is especially challenging given the cosmetic and functional considerations in this prominent and highly visible area and is an area of expertise of our highly trained surgical team.
