Michelle Chen, MD

Michelle M. Chen, MD MHS is a board-certified otolaryngologist and fellowship-trained surgeon specializing in head and neck cancer and reconstructive surgery. She is trained in the medical and surgical management of all aspects of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery.

As a head and neck surgeon trained in microvascular reconstruction, Dr. Chen strives to improve the quality of life of head and neck cancer patients by focusing on functional outcomes. Dr. Chen specializes in the surgical treatment of both benign and malignant head and neck tumors including oral cavity and oropharynx tumors, larynx (voice box) tumors, thyroid and parathyroid tumors, salivary gland tumors, cutaneous tumors, and sinonasal tumors. She has expertise in microvascular reconstruction of the head and neck and transoral robotic surgery (TORS).

Dr. Chen graduated with a degree in Economics and Chemistry from Dartmouth College. She received her MD and MHS degrees at the Yale School of Medicine and completed her surgical internship and otolaryngology residency at Stanford University. She received further subspecialty training at the University of Michigan in advanced head and neck surgical oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Chen has a particular interest in health services research and completed a NIH-funded research fellowship at the University of Michigan and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, including JAMA, Cancer, Head & Neck, and the Journal of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Chen is an active member of the American Association of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Head and Neck Society.
